Many people wish to start their own business, but many are also unrealistic when doing so. Usually, the number one reason that many people want to start their own business is so that they can be their own boss. However, starting your own business also means that you have to be your own worker too.

This is the point that often separates those who will be successful in business and those who will fail. While being your own boss is great, it is unrealistic to think that you will simply start a business and then the money will flow in. This is where the worker has to come in.

Starting your own business will mean a great deal of actual work on your part and that means you will have to have discipline as well. Remember, you will be the one who has to push you to work. You will no longer have a ‘boss’ hovering over your shoulder and telling you to get things done, but you still have to be sure that things do get done.

Therefore, as much as you may not be able to stand the boss you have now, you will have to be just as demanding on yourself once you start your own business. Success takes time and the unrealistic notion of sleeping in everyday and lounging around in your pajamas from the get go is a farce. You may in fact be able to work your way to that, but you will have to work.

Being realistic when starting your business means that you can accept the fact that you will perhaps have to work harder than you ever have before. Being realistic also means that you will have to be the kind of boss that takes no excuses from their workers. Since you may be the only worker at first that means you have to push yourself because there won’t be anyone else to do the pushing for you.
