If you are creating a business plan, an important aspect is the marketing plan. If you already have a business, but no marketing plan, get started on one right away in order to keep your business on track for success. By taking the time to plan how you will market, you will be able to schedule marketing efforts so that there are both continual ongoing marketing strategies at work, as well as targeted shorter-term marketing strategies that you can use as needed.

In creating your marketing plan, you will need to describe your products or services and how they are beneficial to your future customers. Describe those customers. Detail what sets you apart from the competition. This information will be extremely valuable in your marketing efforts.

You will also need to discuss pricing in your marketing plan. State why you have set your prices the way you have, how they compare to the prices of the competition and when and if you are planning to increase them.

The actual logistics of sales and distribution will need to be included in the marketing plan of your business plan. Are your sales through your website, affiliates, sales people, a store front or some other way? How are your products and services delivered? Will this change and if so, at what point?

Finally detail your actual marketing strategies. This will include, but is not limited to, your website, information marketing, demand marketing, social media marketing, networking, trade shows, paid advertising, publicity, personal selling, promotions and much more.

The marketing plan is arguably the pivotal part of a successful business plan. Invest more time and effort in this section than in any other. If you don’t plan to reach your customers, they will never find you.
